Christmas Presents Needed for Foster Kids

On December 15, 2019 Arizonans for Children will be holding a huge Christmas party for children in foster care. We need *new* presents to give these children. Please ask your friends to help. Mentors/Tutors Needed for Foster Kids

         Tutor/Mentors (Arizona, Maricopa County) Arizonans for Children: Volunteers needed for Tutor/Mentor Program Duties: Take the lead in supporting a young person through an ongoing one to one relationship. Serve as a positive role model and friend. Build the relationship by planning and participating in activities together. Strive for mutual respect. Build self esteem and motivation. Help set goals and work toward accomplishing them. Assist your mentee in developing academic and behavioral goals and setting rewards for the achievement of those goals Population served: Youths in foster care in Maricopa County. Currently there are 13,400 youths in care in Arizona and almost 7,000 in Maricopa County. Community need/impact: This role will help break the cycle of poverty and abuse. Volunteers Needed at Visitation Center (Mesa and Phoenix, AZ) Arizonans for Children: Support the Supervision of Family Visitations We need volunteers to support families at our visitation centers, located in Phoenix and  Mesa. Our centers offer safe and inviting rooms for supervised visitations to take place. Children that are in the foster care system in Maricopa County meet with their biological siblings, relatives and parents. The comfortable and neutral environment AFC provides is the catalyst for the reunification of these families. Volunteers will facilitate the orchestration of visits at one of the three visitation centers.    Volunteers Needed to Supervise Visitations (Mesa, AZ) We need volunteers to support families at our visitation center located in Mesa. Our center offers safe and inviting rooms for supervised visitations to take place. Children meet with their biological siblings, relatives and parents. The comfortable and neutral environment AFC provides is the catalyst for the reunification of these families. Population Served:  children separated in divorce cases After separation of parents, some are not able to communicate with each other and supervised visitations are used to avoid conflict and promote a healthy visit with the children. Duties: Supervise visitation for a family while taking notes documenting what is taking place. Visitation Centers and Sack Meals - Helping Families Heal

As families in the foster care system work towards reunification keeping the family bond is crucial.  Arizonans for Children Visitation Centers allow the families to meet in a neutral, fun, vibrant, engaging, safe and supervised environment. There are 2 Arizonans for Children Visitation Centers with the hopes of a 3rd opening in the West Valley.  Each of the centers has between 700-1000 visits every week....think about that...700-1000 visits every single week. Have you been to one of the centers?  It has taken some time but since the start of 2019 we have seen wonderfully positive changes.  Volunteers and staff that embrace the welcoming and judgement free atmosphere!  You can feel the difference just walking in the doors. Father's Day at Arizonans for Children

Father's Day Arizonans for Children Visitation Centers celebrate every holiday with the families on site.  This week we honored the fathers.  Dads that are trying to reunify and make sure their children are part of their lives. We see dads brushing doll hair, down on the floor encouraging their little ones to take the first steps, reading stories, enjoying meals together, laughing, playing and creating memories that will last a lifetime-memories that heal. " In the last hour of this duo's visit, I over heard them sigh when they didn't see chocolate cake as an option. I let them know I'm sure we had some and brought out a fresh cake for them. I'm not sure who had the biggest smile....dad or his daughter. Thanks to Cafe Valley Bakery, we have many options to feed those with a sweet tooth! The two gobbled up their cake. Dad was unaware Father's Day was coming up....I let him know it's a day to recognize all the fabulous dads....just like him
