A Week of Wonderful at Arizonans for Children

Sometimes I just can't believe all the good that happens at Arizonans for Children.  Every day the volunteers, parents, parent aids, kids, staff and donors just simply amaze me and this week has been no exception! Our Saturday STEM Pi-oneer class started with our volunteer Chrysta giving an engaging presentation on "Healthy Brains", then Christian taught the kids how to write a program to build block walls in the Raspberry Pi version of the game Minecraft.  We finished the day off with Paul with PEM talking to the kids about their future and the life they see for themselves.  Honestly I learned something for each of our presenters!  Paul told the kids about an acronym - IDEAL.  Want to know what it stands for?  email az4children.laura@gmail.com   On Saturday 10/20 at the Arizonans for Children Mesa Visitation Center Volunteer Alec and partners held a Fall Festival for the families on site.  The pictures look like it was a lot...

No Amber Alert Today....

No Amber Alert Today….. We see a lot of wonderful things at the Arizonans for Children Visitation Centers and quite a bit of heartbreaking things as well.   Today was devastatingly heartbreaking.   A mom tried to kidnap her children from the center.   We don’t know what brought this family to our center or what circumstances made her feel this was her only option but today those kids suffered due to her actions.   Fortunately for everyone involved the kids are safe. They are safe thanks to the parent aid that called for security as she continued to try to de-escalate, Phoenix Fire who just happened to be driving by and witnessed everything, volunteers that helped whisk the kids to safety and our security guard that restrained the mother until Phoenix Police arrived. Through the Eyes of a Child

In 2011 when my now husband and I planned our wedding one thing we really wanted to do was capture memories of our family.  We had a professional photographer on site but we also gave every child in attendance a camera so we could see what they captured and what was most important to them. One of our Arizonans for Children Mentors Kelly recently shared a post that had me reflecting on this special time in my life and looking through our pictures. Kelly said " My mentee wanted to me to take photos of him so that he could give them to his family...but, when I handed him my camera he fell in love with it! He said it was one of his favorite things to do that day! Now I have lots of photos of my family, thanks to my personal paparazzi!  😂  " Arizonans for Children Mentors have such a wonderful opportunity to discover and re-discover through the eyes of their mentee.  When we stop and see what is the most important to the child then our perspective shifts....
